Jonah Hill and Adam Levine don an Oculus Go headset in different locations, and watch an NBA game together in a promo for YouTube’s launch of its virtual reality app for the Facebook-owned company’s hardware.
The 60-second spot also brings together other celebrities, including Leslie Jones engaged in The Shape of Water in a bathtub, Awkwafina viewing The Handmaid’s Tale and Wiz Khalifa watching a concert.
With the tagline ‘You haven’t seen it until you see it in VR,’ the promo plays up the larger-than-life elements of virtual reality.
Rebecca Van Dyck, CMO of AR/VR at Facebook, told AdWeek that 80 percent of those who’ve purchased an Oculus Go are new to VR, and the ad is meant to demonstrate the mass appeal of VR by showcasing a variety of content that goes beyond gaming.
“We also just wanted to continue to normalize VR a bit more,” she said.
The app is available in the Oculus Store, and this addition means it’s now on all the major VR headsets including Samsung’s Gear VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, meaning it’s now available on all the major VR headsets.
