For her work as a champion of inclusion, engaging diverse audiences and embracing multicultural awareness through marketing, PromaxBDA will honor CNN veteran Cynthia Hudson with its 2018 PromaxIMPACT award.
The recognition speaks to her enduring impact on the media and entertainment industries, and will be presented at PromaxLatino as industry marketing creatives gather November 14 at the New World Center in Miami to celebrate some of the finest work in entertainment and design across Latin America and US Hispanic markets.
Hudson is senior vice president and general manager of CNN en Español and Hispanic strategy for CNN/U.S. She oversees all aspects of CNN’s Spanish-language media businesses, including newsgathering, editorial content, programming, production, operations and personnel, of the CNN en Español 24/7 television news network, CNN en Español RADIO and CnnEspañol.com
“Throughout her career, Cynthia Hudson has led the effort in our community of marketers and creatives to promote diversity and inclusion in our profession,” Steve Kazanjian, president and CEO of PromaxBDA, said in a statement. “Cynthia has left an enduring impact on our industry, and elevated our craft. I can think of no one more deserving of the PromaxIMPACT Award.”
Earlier this year, Hudson expanded CNN en Español’s operations in Argentina and Mexico, as well as the brand’s digital and social growth. The evolution stems from when she took the helm in 2010, invigorating it as a multiplatform business with a revamped logo and programming, and taking the channel from a news wheel to a program-based network with new talent and hit shows.
She also refocused resources to fuel social platforms and secured radio affiliates in the US Hispanic, Latin America and Europe markets and established a branded sales strategy across 30 countries.
Thanks in part to her efforts, CNN en Español has an extensive bilingual staff at various operations hubs including Atlanta, Miami, Washington DC, NY, Los Angeles, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Jerusalem and Madrid.
Hudson is also the recipient of many awards including the Emmys, Glaad Awards, and PromaxBDA awards, as well as recognitions by organizations such as The National Association of Hispanic Journalists and Fortune Magazine.
A keynote speaker and panelist at a plethora of industry-related events, Hudson has also served as chief creative officer and executive vice president for SBS and managing director of Mega TV; senior vice president and editorial director of Cosmopolitan Television; senior vice president of programming and creative services for United International Holding’s joint venture channel service, United Family Communications (UFC), now MGM Networks Latin America; vice president of programming and production for Telemundo Network; and has held various production and executive positions with Univision Network.
